Can I Claim For Sessions Through Medicare?

Some of our practitioners are able to provide services under Medicare Mental Health Care Plan (MHTP) drawn by your GP. With a Mental Health Care Plan, you can claim back part of the session fee through Medicare. Your eligibility for a MHTP can only be determined by your GP. If you would like your eligibility assessed, please mention this to your GP.

With a Mental Health Care Plan you’re able to claim Medicare rebates for 10 sessions per each calendar year (January to December).

If you see a doctor often, you may have reached a Medicare Safety Net threshold. Once you reach the relevant threshold, the Medicare Safety Net may provide a higher Medicare benefit for all eligible services (including psychological services), making your out of pocket expenses much less for the rest of the calendar year.

Couples and families need to register for the Safety Net. You can find out more about the Medicare Safety Net by calling Medicare on 132 011.

How Does Medicare Work?

If you’ve been referred with a Medicare MHTP, you can access an initial 6 sessions through Medicare. After these initial sessions you will need to return to see your GP for a review of your plan to access the remaining 4 sessions.

At the end of a session, you will need to pay for the session fee upfront and then claim back the Medicare rebate for the session. We may submit a claim on your behalf on site so that your Medicare rebate is deposited back into your nominated bank account within 24-48 hours.

Can I Claim Sessions Through My Private Health Fund?

Most Private Health Funds offer rebates for psychological services, and we recommend contacting your health fund to find out about the extent of your cover.

Please keep in mind that you can’t claim through both Medicare and your private health fund at the same time.

Medicare rebates are usually higher than private health fund rebates, although this differs depending on your fund. So you’ll need to make a decision about how you’ll claim.

Do you provide psychological reports?

Yes, fees for a comprehensive psychological assessment report apply.

What Is Your Cancellation Policy?

We request at least a 24hr notice be given for rescheduling or cancellation of appointments. Sessions cancelled without reasonable notice or failure to attend will attract a full session fee.

Naturally, emergency situations are understood and non-attendance fee will not be charged for these times.

Please contact your practitioner for cancellations to avoid a fee.
