David Hwang
Counsellor (PACFA)
David is an accredited counsellor who has extensive experiences working with children, students (primary students & teenagers), parents, families, and teachers in a variety of settings. Before moving into private practice, he worked in schools, supporting students who experience academic pressures, self-criticism, self-harm, suicidal ideation, separation and divorce of their parents, relationship difficulties, suffering from conditions including attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, selective mutism and post-traumatic stress disorder. He has provided numerous group psychoeducation sessions on anger management, self-awareness, including culturally and linguistically diverse populations.

David’s depth of experience come from working for the Department of Communities and Justice. Much of his therapeutic experience has involved supporting people who have experienced trauma in the context of negligence, family violence and abuse (physical, mental and sexual), illicit drug usage, relocation from overseas and adjusting to new cultures.

David also has experience working for disability services, working with people living in support organisations, including people living with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

David utilises a combination of strengths-based therapies including solution-focused therapy, trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy, narrative therapy, and play and art therapies, as well as person-centred therapy.

David brings knowledge of how adversity, depression, anxiety, negligence, abuse and trauma can impact people in their lives. He loves to help clients identify and engage their current strengths and help them to view themselves in a positive way, as well as hearing their experiences and helping them find new ways to navigate through their difficulties.Â

Bachelor of Counselling – Australian College of Applied Psychology
